Do you think she will be going home??? help!?
Hi, my Mother-in-law had a stroke last monday. she is 74 years old, and has been showing signs of dementia for a couple years now, but this week, she is worse than she has ever been. She hallucinates all the time (and its not due to meds, shes not on any) and shes paralyzed on her left side and is now in rehab,. She has a horrible history of cancers, heart problems, glaucoma, everything you can think of, and was living on her own when this happened and had fallen twice in just a couple weeks. I am scared to death that the docs will stick her back home to live alone again- Ive been telling my hubby all year she needs to be in a home or at least have a live in CNA, but he wouldn’t do anything about it, and neither would his sister, they just said her independence meant a lot to her and it would be cruel- but now they see that she cant even feed herself (she couldn’t before the stroke- her electrolytes were low because of it) and she may be independant, but she is deteriorating and her health and life is a lot more important than what SHE wants to do (because everything she does hurts her- shes even driving still- with horrible glaucoma, in a giant Cadillac)
So, do you think they will FINALLY put her in a home (the docs- force her in, most likely) and stop ignoring the signs that she cant be alone anymore like ive been telling everyone for so long??
Shes so confused now. . . she thinks the baby im preg with now is already 3 years old and talks to her and plays with her- and imagines a dog that “comes” into the hosp room to play with her. . . .
what do you think? i just want her to be taken care of and safe. . . and i think now she finally will be.
We would take her, but my husband and I are having our first child due on valentines day, and we cant handle taking care of her and a baby, and also, my hubby is disabled so i already have to take care of him. Plus, we only have a 2 bedroom and dont have room for her. She will fall down the stairs or something- its to dangerous. And she is violent sometimes- she has pulled guns on her own family. . . and she hits sometimes. . . she always has been that way. so It wouldnt be possible. my hubby and I talked it over, and i suggested it, but we cant handle a baby and his mother. plus, we dont have a car, and cant get anywhere unless someone takes us, so that would make it even more difficult.

take your hubby with you to check out assisted living after your mother in law is finished with rehab. If you can, talk to her doctor directly about your concerns. You may not have the final say in it, but give it your best shot. She may never be convinced, but her closest family members may come around.
You also need to tell her doc about the hallucinations. They could be dangerous to all on the road.
Assisted living allows her to be relatively independent while staff makes sure she’s OK. They can be larger or very small facilities. Good luck.
Well, if she isn’t violent when she has hallucinations, then when not invite her to live with you and your husband? That way she will be looked after and feel close to the family. My grandpa lives with us in our home, he too has hallucinations. Sometimes he thinks people are calling him when they arent and other crazy stuff like that.
